The battlefield is bleak
Torn bodies shape the earth.
A survivor struggles to move
Before silence turns to madness.
Maybe it already has.
Heart beats tolling
Growing faster in defiance of death
Hoarse breath repeating words
Over and over again
"I will not die... I will not die..."
Carried through the stillness
But only dead ears can hear.
